Another year, another wave of new and exciting titles coming up. This year brings us a whole line-up of films to satisfy our movie cravings. There's a bunch of sequels, and some original movies to hit the screen. But only a few of them were able to get us excited and thrilled to see them on the big screen.
So here's the Top 10 list of the best and most awesome movie trailers released this year. This very special list features flicks from different genres ranging from horror, thriller, suspense, action, fantasy, adventure, sci-fi and even superhero films. Also, we used different criteria when picking those who got into this list. These criteria includes scenes from the film, how the trailer was edited and cut, the soundtrack or music, length or duration, timing of release (of the trailer itself), and of course, all the movie's spoilers.
So let's start now the countdown.
10. Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies.
The trailer for this horror comedy/ romantic period drama flick about a group of sisters trying to survive a zombie apocalypse while finding a husband for themselves in 19th Century England features beautiful faces, gorgeous period detail, and some really scary zombie make-up. Plus, it also features one of the best zombie kills for a long time as the trailer ends with Mr. Darcy (played by Sam Riley) finishes a zombie by cutting out it's throat with a broken glass... from the zombie's point-of-view. It's bloody without being violent.9. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
Based on the best-selling novels by Ransom Riggs, this movie adaptation by master storyteller Tim Burton is probably the weirdest amongst the entries on this list. It is a colorful yet very disturbing fairytale about a young boy named Jake (played by Asa Butterfield) who enters a secret and undiscovered place where the titular Miss Peregrine (Eva Green) offers very special kids a place to stay. And when I say special, I mean 'special'.The trailer features Eva Green morphing into a bird, a pair of very weird twin children, and a girl with a monstrous mouth at the back of her head. Talk about peculiar.
8. Hardcore Henry
Maybe this movie might sound a bit unfamiliar to you. Well, if you haven't heard about this film yet, I'll be glad to introduce it to you. Hardcore Henry is an action film. I think that one was obvious with the title. But this is not like any action film you will ever see. Why? Because this is the first ever action film shot from the first person point of view. Yes. The whole film is shown in the main character's point of view. It's quite similar to those trashy found footage films we've been getting for the past years, but way better. No. Actually, way more awesome. The film, which stars Sharlto Copley, Ilya Naishuller and Danila Kozlovsky, is about a man who wakes up in a Moscow laboratory to learn that he's been brought back from the dead as a half-human, half-robotic hybrid. By looking at the trailer, it looks like a cross between a video game and an action flick, complete with grenade tossing, melee combat, and a silent protagonist—the titular Henry.
7. X-Men: Apocalypse.
The final trailer of this latest installment of the hit Bryan Singer franchise is sure to excite fans of the series. Featuring a complete look at the movie's biggest villain, an ancient mutant known as Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) and his four Horsemen, plus more amazing footage featuring it's mutant heroes, from Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) up to Quicksilver (Evan Peters), this newly released trailer will make you wish that it's already May.6. Captain America: Civil War.
I'm a big fan of Captain America. I loved Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) from the very beginning, from when he was still working with Agent Carter in Captain America: The first Avenger, up until he and his fellow Avengers fought Ultron in last year's Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Therefore, I saved up a spot for the third installment of his movie series on this list. The all-star cast returns for this epic sequel as The Avengers are divided to two parties, one led by Tony Stark and the other, by Steve Rogers, when an act regulating superhuman activity was issued by the government. The first trailer was actually a bit stale, but the latest one which featured the most awaited appearance by the newest (yet unnecessary) incarnation of Spiderman played by Tom Holland made fans cheer, except me.
5. Batman V Superman : Dawn Of Justice
The follow-up to 2013's Man Of Steel, Zack Snyder returns to the director's seat with this epic movie featuring two of the most iconic superheroes of all time, being pitched against each other. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be the first live-action film to feature both Batman and Superman, as well as the first theatrical film to feature live-action portrayals of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg. This landed in the top 5 spot, which is a bit higher than Captain America : Civil War, due to the fact that the world doesn't really need another incarnation of Spiderman, and because this trailer featured not only a kick-ass appearance by Wonder woman (Gal Gadot) in action, but our first glimpse of Jessy Eisenberg in a comic portrayal of Lex Luthor .
4. The Conjuring 2
The horror genre was again revitalized with the arrival of the now-classic 2013 blockbuster hit from James Wan which starred Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as paranormal investigators and authors Ed and Lorraine Warren. This time, they travel to England to investigate poltergeist activity at a council house in Enfield. In the trailer released for this latest horror installment, Vera Farmiga's character talks to a scared young girl, who later tells her that the malicious spirit haunting their home wants to hurt Lorraine at that very moment. Then, the trailer flashes a series of possession and exorcism stuff, with one of the clips featuring a Nosferatu inspired scene. It ends with another terrifying jump scare that will scare the shit out of you, reminiscent of the clapping hands scene from the first movie.
3. Ghostbusters.
A reboot of the original 1984 supernatural comedy hit, this new movie features an all female cast composed of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, with a nerdy Chris Hemsworth as their receptionist. The reboot's newly released trailer features the four female heroines clad in full Ghostbusters gear, fighting glowing green ghosts floating around New York and into the screen (it is a 3D film, by the way) and a parody of The Exorcist, featuring Melissa McCarthy doing a full 360 degree headspin. I don't know about you guys but I love it.2. 10 Cloverfield Lane
J.J. Abrams surprised the whole world when he unveiled the official trailer for this spiritual sequel to his found-footage monster hit 'Cloverfield' (2009). No one was ready for this trailer as the film itself was produced secretly from fans of the 2009 film as it was kept under a different working title 'Valencia' starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher. Although it is very, very different from the 2009 shaky cam monster flick as this film is more of a psychological thriller, basing from the trailer alone, I know for sure that this is gonna be a classic.Featuring a very unique and genius editing and soundtrack, the trailer for this film manages to make everything about it so exciting, uncomfortable and weird all at the same time, and will drive your curiosity to a whole new heights, without even showing anything at all. It's like Steven Spielberg's Jaws, in a 2 minute trailer. And have I mentioned that it boasts a great soundtrack with the 1967 Brit-pop song “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tommy James & the Shondells.
Now, before we unveil the Number 1 on this list, here are some of our honorable Mentions of the best movie trailers released this 2016:
The Purge: Election Year. The third installments of the hit horror thriller series, the creepy trailer for this film was released in time for the upcoming elections period. Talk about good timing.Watch the trailer now.
The Shallows. I don't know a lot about this film but it's newly released trailer is enough for me to notice this movie featuring Blake Lively who came face to face with a shark. It revolves around Blake Lively's character, a young surfer, who becomes stranded 200 yards from shore after a great white shark attacks her.Just check out this trailer.
Ratter. A thriller horror film starring Ashley Benson following a graduate student who lives alone in New York City. In the trailer, he is constantly watched over by a stalker through her technological devices and gadgets, until this guy decides to that video feeds are not enough and goes from a virtual to a physical stalker. The trailer itself will make you think twice before opening up your smartphone devices or laptop.
And now, our Number 1 pick for the best movie trailer for this year goes to the superhero film based on the DC Comics antihero team of the same name. Yes. You guessed it right.

1. Suicide Squad.
Featuring a star-studded cast led by Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, and Scott Eastwood, this dark, unsettling, yet action-packed trailer for this upcoming DC comics adaptation completes the list as the best trailer we've seen this year yet. Although the first trailer was already a good one, the second trailer which showed us more clips from the film plus some more action featuring the Joker (Jared Leto) is way more enjoyable and satisfying. This is the type of trailer that I could watch over and over again and still enjoy every single second of it. Boasting with some memorable one liners (with Harley Quinn ending the whole trailer with the line "We're the bad guys. This is what we do."), astounding action pieces, some more footage featuring the other heroes (or should I say, anti-heroes), it also features the best song you could pick for a movie like this. With Queens' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' setting up the tone and atmosphere of the whole trailer, it's just perfect for this spot. Thanks for reading!
